i'll catch it, but I'm not touching it....

I never realized how tiring vacation would be. DH has been home for the week and we took a few day trips with the kids. We went tubing ( i will NEVER do that again with little ones), drove down to MD to an army base museum, drove a bit more to a Bass Pro Shop, received some really EXCITING news and of course....went fishing! We left the end of the week for relaxing. Somehow relaxing to my hubby meant putting in new windows. whew, I'm tired!

I didn't think I'd get it done, but I managed to get this weeks Dixie Pieces layout done. The challenge this week is TEXTURE of summer, DOODLING, the colors GREY, RED, LT BLUE and neutrals.

I used to love drawing back in college. I would sit down and draw everyday. Now my time is spent scrapping and stamping and I'm a bit rusty to say the least. It was fun to get out my old sketchbooks and start drawing again. I drew him in pencil, added detailing with Zig Micron (1, 5) pens. Then I went in and added loose strokes of color with Koh-i-noor pencils. I wanted it to look a bit like an artists nature sketchbook. ( note to self: don't ask the 6 yr old what he thinks. The fish is too fat according to him, lol!)

I also doodled the sentiment and border around the edge. Within the border are all kinds of descriptive words to describe how I feel about touching the fish... slippery, slimy, cold, gross, etc. Its not so much the actual feeling of the fish, but more the combination of their texture, the fear of hurting them and their unpredictable movements that I don't like. I always get DH to remove the hook and release them.

Using a piece of magic mesh as a mask, I inked up a foam brush and brushed on ink through the mesh. This gave it just a bit more of a distressed look.

AWESOME page, Wendy and that fish is fabulous! You rocked that drawing! It's got so much detail! (And I'm right there with you on touching fish... I'll do it if I have to, but would rather have hubby remove it from the hook!)

OMGosh Wendy...this sentiment was designed for me...I don't mind throwing the hook in the water, but I don't do bait or touch fish...unless it's at dinner with a fork. What a fantastic design and so creative the way you did your handwritten doodle border.. Awesome!

Wendy, this layout is awesome! I agree with you on touching it. I would fish my DH and I didn't want to touch the fish to take it off the hook. Finally, I got one of those yellow kitchen gloves to take the fish off. My DH got sick of walking over to me and help. Wonderful layout! Love the details!

Hi Wendy,

You are an awesome artist! The fish is perfection! Do more!

I also thought the mesh idea was terrific. I have a package and think I may give that a try some day.
