sights of summer...

This week's challenge for Dixie Pieces Sense-ational Summer Contest is handcutting. The colors are blue, green and white. The theme is SIGHTS of summer. And as is the case every week, there are points given for secret items on your layout. Now I'm normally a pretty clean, linear scrapper so this little twist is a toughie for me. I think this may be the busiest layout I've made yet, but I'm kinda liking it.

I love handcutting designs from paper! I've gotten a bit lazy since getting the Cricut, but still love handcutting just as much. To create the dolphin design, I found free clipart online. Printed it out. And adhered it with a gluestick to the backside of the cardstock. Working on the intricate center cuts first I started cutting with my exacto knife.

Since I would only have room for one dolphin, I inked in pen lines to continue to the water pattern through the water, getting rid of the other dolphins.

This is the finished piece, but I decided it looked a bit boring, so......

i got to work adding pattern paper. I wanted to go for a stained glass look. Using the dolphin piece, I laid it down over my pattern paper and traced the pieces. When cutting it out I left a bit of a border so to make it easier to adhere down. Doesn't look so pretty from the back, but kinda cool effect from the front.
