To create the bird, I found a coloring book image at http://www.lucygardens.com/ . I resized it to a workable size, traced it onto watercolor paper and cut it out, making sure to cut extra for any parts that I wanted lifted. I watercolored it and then shaped it after it was dry with an embossing stylus.
