Skipping Stones Designs- Stamping out Cancer

IT'S  TIME TO STAMP OUT CANCER!!!! Welcome to the second annual Blog 4 Boobies fundraiser! This is day 3 of a 3 day blog bounce (hop) where EVERY CARD OR PROJECT is up for auction!

Last year with your help Skipping Stones Design raised and donated $1108.99 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. It is our goal to raise $1500 this year and WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!  I am excited to be joining in the Skipping Stone Designs Hop to help fight cancer. Here's what I have up for auction. I created a handmade wood burned bangle and matching card.  You can give the bangle to someone special how might be struggling with breast cancer as a reminder to stay strong. Or you might even want to keep the bangle for yourself.  Leave a bid in the comments below to bid on this card/bangle set!

I used Healing Wings on this card. Did I mention i LOVE this stamp set? lol! The sentiment is from Always Here set. I inked the paper up with Distress Inks and splattered with water to create that cool background. The butterflies were stamped with Truffle Mix'd Media Colorbox ink and embossed with Stampendous Clear EP. They've been colored with copics.

This bangle measures 2 3/4 inches (inside diameter)  with a 1 1/5 inch face. The bangles from DIYBangles are made of milkwood. Lightweight and perfect for adding a little something to your outfits. Its been wood burned, painted and finished with a clear wood varnish.

I started wood burning in college. I made a few pieces and then stored the tool away and forgot about it. A few years ago, I realized that I could incorporate my stamping into wood burning and so I dug the wood burning tool back out.

The butterflies continue around the entire bangle. There are 4 butterflies in total on the bangle. I love butterflies. They symbolize hope and peace to me. I thought they would be the perfect touch on the bangle for someone who may be fighting cancer as a reminder to stay strong and continue to hope!

To create the bangles, I stamp a design (Skipping Stones Design Healing Wings) onto the unfinished wood in a light ink. I use Old Paper Distress Ink. This will give me a guide to follow when burning. Many times I won't add in all the detailing when burning in the design. With the lighter ink, I can give it a bit of sanding and remove the extra ink.  When I'm happy with the design I add color with Derwent Inktense pencils or acrylic paints. To add a bit of depth to the wood, I stain it with Antiquing Glaze. The last step is to seal it with a coat of wood varnish.

YOU, my dear, are my stamping idol. You come up with the most amazing projects and open up stamping to so many different mediums for me. This is FANTASTIC. Love these butterfly images, and would have never thought to create these large images onto a rounded surface like a bracelet, but you did so with AMAZING artistic ability. Love this, Wendy!
