its the weekend...woo hoo!

Lots of cards to share today. This first one comes from a sketch challenge at Little Paper Shop. Isn't that a fun sketch! It worked perfect for this weeks rubbernecker challenge. Since it was Sherry's birthday this week (happy birthday!!!), the challenge was to create a birthday theme card. I'm not quite sure where I came up with that color combo from. Its a bit different, isn't it? LOL!

This next card was another from a Little Paper Shop sketch. The poinsetta is from PSX and I think it was one of the first stamps I ever bought. I cut it out from the rest of the image to use on this card.

live, laugh and love

Sometimes you can find the cutest things in the Target dollar section. See that cute little "live, laugh, love" button...yep, dollar section. It came in a pack of 9 recycling themed buttons/pins. The real reason I bought it was for the frog pin that looks just like the Arctic Frog froggie. I used to collect frogs, not so much since I started collecting stamps, lol! But hopefully that cute little froggie pin will make its way onto a layout about my frog loving collection soon.

I had a few challenges in mind when I created this card. It fills the Rubbernecker challenge of using embellishments. I also fills the needs for Ellen Hutson's WCMD #1 challenge of texture with that cuttlebugged background. Love this Rubbernecker stamp. I've had it for awhile now and just haven't had the chance to ink it up. Originally it had a butterfly in her hand, but I thought it would be the perfect spot for that pin.

short and sweet

This is going to be a quick post because I'm exhausted. Its been one of those weeks where we're constantly on the go...and its only Monday. ugh!

I'm a bit behind on getting this card up for the Rubbernecker challenge. The challenge was to use chipboard on a card. I also doubled it with one of last weeks splitcoast stampers challenges of faux batik. You may recognize the leaves and flowers as the same from my last SYTYCS layout. This was actually a sample piece that I did to see if I would be able to machine stitch those leaves. Couldn't let it go to waste.

This next card is for Lizzie Anne Designs weekly sketch challenge #47. I also tried to use the colors from this weeks Color Throwdown. I stamped the gears on cardstock, cut them out and then glued them onto cardstock of the same color. I'm still loving that tone on tone effect.

So You Think You Can Stamp round 2

This weeks challenge for Simple Scrapbooks So You Think You Can Stamp round 2 is stamping on transparencies. Fun challenge, not always so fun to try to photograph, lol! For the challenge part of the layout I stamped the Autumn Leaves butterfly twice, once on transparency and once on kraft cardstock. I cut both of them out, flipping the cardstock butterfly over so the stamped image is on the back. I added some Kaiser gems for the body and adhered the transparency to the cardstock with tiny pop dots hidden under the gems.



I used two butterflies on the left side to represent my SD and hubby and then the single butterfly on the right side to represent her taking off and finding her wings.

journaling reads:
"These words by song writer, Mark Harris, fit you and your fathers relationship perfectly. As you make that transition from eigth grade to high school, live your dreams but remember he's always there. (photos from 8th grade dance)"

There is also some stamping under the title stickers. I stamped the Rubbernecker leaf image in Versamark to give a subtle tone on tone effect. I'm kinda hooked on that tone on tone effect, lol! The KI lace paper is a shade lighter and popped up on many pop dots to give another tone on tone effect. The color inspiration for this layout subconsiously came from this weeks Color Throwdown I have had this kraft, blue, green combo stuck in my head all week. I was supposed to use chocolate brown and instead I used kraft so it doesn't quite fit the color combo. Isn't it a fun color combo though?!

they're back.....

I am so happy. Do you know why? The Rubbernecker challenges are back!!! These are what got me to start a blog in the first place. All the info can be found on the new Rubberneck blog. This weeks challlenge was to use any diecut element on a card along with a Rubbernecker stamp. I used the the letters XOXO from the Cuttlebug Babyface to create the background for the card.

I haven't heard anything about So You Think You Can Stamp, but I just have to thank everyone for voting. If I don't advance to the next round, I am really just tickled pink to have been picked as one of the 16 finalists.

Fall is almost here!

Its the weekend! Yay! Of course that means we'll be on the soccer field most of the morning, but it also means we can slow down a bit and relax. I always forget how exhausting that first full week back at school is.

The temperatures are starting to drop at night here, Halloween goodies are in the stores, the kids are planning their costumes and fall is quickly approaching. As soon as I saw Jens Little C's weekly challenge this week I knew I had to give it a try. I don't think I've ever made a Halloween card before. I don't know why because I love the color combos and decor of fall.

I stamped the tree image on white cardstock and embossed it. I stamped it a second time on black cardstock and cut it out. You can see its not exact. I didn't worry about cutting out every single one of the skinny branches, but instead the main trunck and branches. I pop dotted this above the other tree image.

To create the distress mesh look on the circles. I cut a piece of magic mesh, laid it down on the paper paper and sponged distress inks over top. Pull the mesh off and you have a simple distress background.

The bats were my own design cut freehand.

And quite a fancy dog house it is with wallpaper and framed artwork, lol!

Two of this weeks Rubbernecker challenges were to create a scene and use the SCS color combo. This card actually worked for both challenges. First I created inches and then I framed them with a Studio G $1 stamp. The stamp originally had a flower inside the postage frame image, but the nice thing about clear stamps is you can cut them apart easily. I simply cut the center out of the stamp and used it as a frame instead. The wallpaper was created with Autumn Leaves stamps and watercolors, but first I had to create some marks so I knew where to stamp. I used a piece of plastic canvas and sketched in light pencil marks set distance from each other. This was an easy way to mark the paper. Unlike if I had drawn in lines with a ruler, there were barely any pencil marks and it was straight. Yes, even with a ruler I have a hard time keeping my lines straight. LOL! After it was stamped and colored I added dots of Stickles. These added a bit of sparkle and also covered up my pencil marks. The scallop around the card was created using a border strip from the Cuttlebug Babyface font. Nestabilities are pretty high on my wish list but for now I'll just have to settle for a few tricks to get the scallop effect.

This card made me think of one of my new favorite reality shows as I was creating it... the Greatest American Dog. Has anyone seen it yet? Contestants and their dogs all stay in a house and complete challenges with someone getting eliminated each week. I'm amazed at how calm it is in the house with all the dogs. Its a cute show that even the kids can watch.

I have a few more cards to post, but they're going to have to wait until tomorrow. :)

The one nice thing about this horribly hot humid weather is that it means extra time inside avoiding the sun, which means extra stamping. Of course the bad thing is that I have to get all my crafting done early in the day because at night with all the overhead lights on it gets too HOT!

I created this first card with two challenges in mind... Taylors Expressions Cupcake Challenge #25 and also for the OCC challenge of dry embossing. I stamped LAD and Fontwerks flower stamps on white cardstock and then watercolored them using the Crayola washable markers again. The sketch actually called for a box in the center but I took a bit of creative liberty to make it a quote strip with border.

This next card is for the Rubbernecker Challenge to use the SCS sketch from this week. I watercolored the image, added some glossy accents and a dew drop, and a bit of chalk to the edges....done.

When I started this blog a few months ago, I was really in over my head. This whole blogging thing was new to me. Templates, posting, html code, widgets...none of it made much sense. But over the past few months I've been slowing trying to learn it all. This weekend I figured it was about time to give this blog of mine a bit of a makeover. Obviously I still have alot of work to do. Just can't quite seem to get that header right and now thats its up its just not colorful enough. What do you think? Is this template too wide? I'm slowly trying to add to my blogroll, but should I email and ask permission before adding people? And what exactly is a subscription?!? any suggestions? I have SO much to learn still, but I'll get!

found treasures

I have had this Stampendous stamp for years. I just pulled it out of a box of "to-be-sold" stuff that I had forgotten about. I'm kinda glad that I never got around to selling it because I'm loving it all over again. During my cleaning spree, I also emptied out the boys book bags of stuff from the last week of school. My youngest brought home his untouched pack of washable Crayola markers. Oh my goodness....love them. They have found a permanent home in my scrap room. Love the vibrant colors that I can't get with my watercolors, plus since they are washable, they blend really well with either a aqua pen or another color marker. Fun stuff!


This card used Taylors weekend Cupcake challenge #24. Instead of the strip of ribbon, I used embroidery floss to hang the birdhouse. The bow is actually just a loop of ribbon with embroidery floss wrapped around for the knot.

Oops, heres a card that I forgot to post last week. It is another one for the Rubbernecker challenges. I used the SCS 174 color combo for it. All the paper strips were scraps laying on my desk from another card I made last week (which come to think of it I still have to post here also...later) I heated a piece of white fun foam and stamped the Scotty into it. Fun technique because it leaves an impression in the fun.
