Happy World Cardmaking Day ( a day late)

Happy World Cardmaking Day (a day late)!!!! We had big plans for Saturday. First thing after soccer we were going to head to a stamp convention, that was until we found out that my sons pictures were smack dab in the middle of the day. hmmm, pictures or stamps. It was a hard decision, but I'm a scrapbooker. Gotta have those photos!

Probably just as well as I'm trying to save my pennies for a Cricut. (yes, this from the person who actually loves to handcut stuff, lol) I'm still trying to figure out what I want. Do I go save a few dollars, go smaller with the personal and get SCAL or do I go for the expression. All you cricut experts tell me what I need?

Well, I didn't make it to the final 4 in the SYTYCS contest. I'm a bit disappointed, but I'm actually just thrilled that I made it as far as I did. I put in some audition layouts just hoping to be picked by the editors to make it into the contest as one of the 16 finalists, and I did. Each week that I made it to the next round, I was shocked and thrilled. I have to admit it was kinda nice to be able to just play around in my scraproom this weekend with no expectations or pressure. See every layout I go through the same process. I start with a bit of an idea, completely change the direction I started in, doubt myself, convince myself that I've forgotten how to scrap, and then eventually watch as everything falls into place. Its a grueling process but I love it! This is my creative outlet. I doubt it would be as enjoyable if it always came easy.

I created this next card using Taylors Cupcake Expressions sketch #36. It also works for a challenge over on 2peas. Not a whole lot of stamping on it other than the sentiment, but it was still fun to create.

Heres a closup of the spider and the webs. Do you want to know how to make them? Well scroll down and be kind. Its my first tutorial.

To create the super simple spider:
1. punch 1 inch circle out of black cardstock
2. cut 4 thin 3-4 inch strips of black cardstock
3. lay strips, fanned out, in the middle of the black circle
4. add a foam dot over the strips (will add height, but also hold the strips down in the process)
5. flip the circle over and add 2 googly eyes
6. bend spider legs and adhere spider to the card
Heres how I created the spiderweb background. Its a bit hard to tell from the photo, but the spiderweb is popped up on the lime cardstock.

I usually have a little helper in my room as I'm scrapping. Well, I'm not sure if he's always a help because he usually is taking everything out, playing with things he shouldn't and leaving them all over my floor. sigh. This is the birthday card he created for DH. See I told you those spiders were simple. He made that one himself. He was quite proud of himself and insisted on not only getting his card in there while I was photographing cards today, but also his little face.

I love the detail of that spiderweb in the corners. What a fabulous job. I can appreciate the time that goes into such a precise task, BRAVO!

As far as the Cricut, I think it really depends on how big you need things. One of my dearest friends is a scrapbooker and she swears by the BIG one, I mostly make cards, so I can make do with the little one.
