wooden bangles (part 2)

Welcome back! I have another DIY bangle to share with you today. If you follow my blog you may remember that from time to time I like to put the paper aside and pull out the wood burning tools. For this bangle, I used my former Paper Craft Planet DT pal Melanie Muenchinger's gorgeous A Year of Leaves stamps by GinaK.

I stamped the leaves around the bangle blank in a light brown ink. Then using those lines as a guide I went in with the wood burning tool and burned the design. The last time I shared a wood burning project I mentioned that the ease of wood burning all depends on the wood. The DIY Incus Bangles are perfect for wood burning on!!! Smooth. No knots. Perfect! To add some depth to the design, after I finished wood burning all the leaves I went in and added all those dots in the background.
I colored the leaves in with acrylic paints and wiped the entire piece with an antiquing glaze. The only thing left to do is give it coat of shellac to protect it.

I've been tossing around the idea of setting up an ETSY shop for bracelets and cards, but haven't quite gotten around to it yet. If anyone is interested in purchasing a custom bracelet just shoot me an email.

Be sure to stop back because I have one more bangle bracelet to share with you. This one involved raiding my husbands tools. HA HA HA (grunted in my best Tim Allen impersonation)

from caterpillar to butterfly....

Tonight I have some bittersweet news to share. One of our Paper Craft Planet Super Novas, Melanie Muenchinger, is leaving the Planet. Melanie has been on the Paper Craft Planet Design team since the Planet launched last year, but with mounting family and designing commitments, she needs to scale back on her other teams to focus on illustrating for Gina K Designs. But since this is not really “goodbye”, the PCP ladies are throwing a little going away "Best Wishes"bash in the form of a blog hop today featuring two sets designed by Melanie: " A Year of Leaves” or “School, Sports, Spirit!”

Gina K is sponsoring a challenge this week on Paper Craft Planet with a chance to win one of Melanie’s newest sets! Upload a new project you create with a "Best Wishes" or good luck theme to the PCP gallery by Monday night 10PM EST, with the tag GKDBW. (Here is a tutorial on adding pictures to the gallery, if you need it.)

A winner will be announced Tuesday, that person will win their choice of “"A Year of Leaves” or "School, Sports,Spirit!” Hope you will play the challenge!

Our theme for this blog hop was supposed to be best wishes but instead I choose to work with a sentiment that I love! "What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly." I just thought it was the perfect sentiment as we wish Melanie good luck. I'm sad to see you leaving us, Melanie but I know you're going to do fantastic things. Go be a butterfly girl!!! We'll be there cheering you on!

I originally thought I would try melting crayon shavings between wax paper, stamping the leaves on the paper and cutting them out. Just didn't quite turn out as I remembered it from my own kindergarden days. Plus some of the crayons must have had a low wax content because they weren't really melting well. whats up with that?! LOL! So I stamped the leaves in Stazon on muslin, cut them out and painted modpodge on them. The modpodge gave them some stability so I could shape them a bit. I added a slight wash of watercolors once dry. The butterfly rubon is by Royal and Langnickle.

Please see more beautiful samples the Supernovas created with these new sets

walk beside me...

As soon as I saw this weeks sketch over at Card Positioning System I knew I had to give it a try, and then I saw todays SCS challenge of cutting out the border...perfect match. I won this GinaK stamp set, Year of Flowers, during their last release and I am loving them! Knowing that one of my fellow PCP DT gals, Mel, designed them makes them extra special. Thanks again Gina!!!

I stamped the flowers/leaves on cardstock in versamark. I cut around the flowers so I could slip the quote behind the flowers. I stamped and cut out a few extra flower/leaves and popped them up on pop dots. I added highlights with a white gel pen.

supplies used:
stamps: GinaK (a Year of Flowers)
ink: Versamark
other: Doodlebug frills, white gel pen

happiness...

I was able to stop in for a bit at the GinaK stamp release party the other night. Couldn't stay long but had fun trying to keep up with the chat and seeing the new stamp designs. Cute stuff! This next card is Jessica's sketch challenge for the GinaK challenges. I believe the challenges run through the weekend so if you're looking for some stamping motivation go check it out.

warped sense of humor...

By now you've probably realized that sometimes I have a weird sense of humor when it comes to making cards. This next card is one I made for Melanie Muenchinger's contest this week to create a card or project of a favorite hand-in-hand type memory. Its a card for the mother of the bride to be as she celebrates marrying off her daughter, lol! OK, I'll admit its a bit far fetched especially since DH and I skipped the whole wedding hoopla by eloping, but I was really looking for a reason to ink up these cute hand stamps from GinaK's set Heartfelt Hits 1.

supplies used:
stamps: GinaK Heartfelt Hits 1
cardstock: Pure Luxury
stickers: EK Success
other: Kaiser craft bling, Cuttlebug, ribbon

Wow, didn't realize its been almost a week since I blogged. Sorry about that. I've been busy stamping up Christmas cards. Did I remember to photograph any of them before mailing them out? umm, no! But don't worry. I still have a bunch more to do. I'll try to grab some photos first.

Have a great weekend!!!

a painter I'm not....

The closer we get to the holiday season the more crazy the schedule gets. It just seems there is something to do every single day. Last night we painted ornaments for the kids at our school PTA meeting. um, yeah. I'm so NOT a painter! Give me paper, glue and scissors anyday!

Today is a card that I made using Lauren Meaders weekend sketch. Yes, its missing that little embellishment in the corner, but I couldn't really find anything that matched. I'll probably find the perfect embellishment after I mail it out, LOL! ok, lets see. That brings me up to 4 Christmas cards done, way too many still left to do and mail out. How does everyone feel about New Years cards? ;)

Besides being the 6th day of Christmas at Paper Craft Planet its also DT upload day. The theme this month is "Holiday". Hopefully you'll find some inspiration for all the holiday gifts and cards you wish to make.

I have a confession to make. I've been a bad blogger. I have recieved a few awards and keep getting distracted with supplies and all the little details of uploading the cards that I keep forgetting to mention the awards.

The first award I received is from Elena at TheRedHairedGirl . I've seen this award on others blogs and thought how cool. I think its that pink and red damask...love that! Can I just tell you how much I love getting a chance to meet and connect with stampers and scrappers through blogging! Thank you Elena!!!! The rules are that you're supposed to pick 5 people and nominate them, but I just can't only pick 5. I would feel so bad if anyone got their feelings hurt.

This next one is a Autumn "I Love You Blog" award given to me by Adela Rossol. Thanks girlie! I feel so lucky to have gotten to know you and the rest of our nutty crew through stamping!

I have one more to share from another one of my sweet PCP DT sisters, Sankari Wegman. Thank you so much for the award. I'm supposed to be passing this one on also, but again I'm going to be a rule breaker. I'm such a rebel, lol! You all are an inspiration to me, so theres no way I could pick just one.

Tomorrow I'll be sharing my card for the Paper Craft Planet weekly sketch and since I was just recently tagged 7 interesting facts about me. I'm not sure how interesting they'll be because I'm as boring as you can get, lol!

Don't forget....There is still a few more hours to get your Day 6 projects into the gallery to be entered into a random drawing for an awesome stamp set from Treehouse Stamps.

christmas wishes...

Here is another card that I made for the CreativeXpress cyber crop this weekend. I'm just loving these cute snow kids by Gina K stamps. When I laid eyes on these cuties, vintage christmas was the first thing that came to mind. One problem...I didn't have any pattern paper with text on it and then I remembered Mel's blog. Let me tell you, if you're ever looking for a certain pattern, tutorial, or link you can probably find it at Mel Stampz . Tons and tons of inspiration! Check out this entry for a download of the same paper that I used in my tag... vintage dictionary paper. Thanks Mel!!!

hey, see that red diecut under the image? You guessed it. I finally putting that Cricut to use more! This is from the Home Accents cartridge (i think) and I simply cut it in half and rearranged the pieces.

supplies used:
stamps: Gina K Warm and Cozy Christmas
cardstock: Prism Kraft
diecut: Cricut Home Accents, Cuttlebug Swiss dots
ribbon: super old dollar store find
dictionary pattern paper: Mel stamps

Thanks for stopping by and have a great turkey day!!!

2 Christmas cards done...too many more to go

Its time for another sketch challenge at Paper Craft Planet. This weeks awesome sketch comes from Tammy Hershberger I loved this sketch and plan to use it quite a bit more this week while I'm getting my Christmas cards done. Come play along and be sure to upload your card in the PCP gallery when you're done!

Not a whole lot of details on this card, so I'll just skip right to the gushing. I tried the new GinaK 80lb Pure Luxury cardstock for this card....OMGosh! Love it! First off this cardstock is white! I'm a sucker for cardstock and like to try various types in search of the perfect white. So many times the whites are a bit dingy, but not Gina K's Pure Luxury cardstock. It is a nice, crisp clean white...perfect for those winter images. It has a smooth texture that accepts pencils and watercolors beautifully. Love it!

supplies used:
pattern paper: KI Memories
other: raffia, white EP

This next card doesn't use the sketch, but I was just having fun coloring the images that I had to keep going. Two Christmas cards done...too many more to go. Think I'll get them all done by Thanksgiving weekend? LOL!

supplies used:
stamps: Gina K Warm & Cozy Christmas, Heartfelt Hits
paper: Gina K 80 lb Pure Luxury Cardstock
